Surrey Wedding Planning Essentials

The question has just been popped and after the celebration of a soon-to-be wedding, it begins to sink in that there is a great deal of planning to be done. In some cases this could lead to a panic of sorts; however, it is best to think things through and strategise in order to make things run smoothly.

Wedding Plan

As a couple you need to come up with a plan that lists down all that it to be done and the amount of time required to complete all the preparations.  There are several template plans that can be found in bookstores or you can buy wedding planning software that you can install on your computer. This kinds of plans put almost everything into consideration and it is simply a matter of following up on issues and ensuring that deadlines are met.

Checklists

The best way to follow up if certain tasks have been done to completion is to always have a checklist within the wedding plan. By doing this you will be easily able to determine what has been done and what is remaining.

Attachments

Whether you have a manual or digital wedding plan it is important to attach any documents that pertain to the event. This includes things such as receipts, permits, licenses, fabric samples. Color scheme samples, card designs etc. having these items in a central place will make it easy when referencing.

Personalize

If you are using a wedding plan template you should be able to customize it in a way that makes it more personal for you. Do not be afraid of making any additions where you feel necessary.

NB: As you prepare for the big day make sure that you put some time aside to relax because you may burn out before that big day arrives!

Things to Ponder when Planning a Wedding

Planning of a wedding can be complicated or simple depending on what preparations you make for the big ceremony. If you decide to make a logical plan well in advance, you will find that things tend to fall into place and any eventualities can be dealt with in good time. Preparation is the best way to make sure that a wedding ceremony is a success.

Wedding Planner

As much as it may sometimes seem unnecessary to hire some help for the planning it is wise to hire a wedding planner/coordinator if you can afford it.  This person will assist greatly in making your dream wedding come true. This is especially so when you do not have enough time to attend to certain issues and you have to let the coordinator follow up on things.

Finances

It is vital to decide the amount you are willing to spend and this will be the basis of how big or small the wedding will be. Try to keep within your budget and make compromises if you can because some people have lavish weddings only to be steeped in debt after all the festivities are done. A good tracking record for expenses should be in place and this will help you not to overshoot your budget.

Location

Finding the right venue could be hectic but you will need to look around. Ensure that necessary bookings are done well in advance and if required get the necessary licenses or permits.

Bookings

There are a host of services that need to be booked in advance and these include: catering, D.J/Band, Photographers, transport and florists. Make all confirmations before hand to avoid any surprises.

Guest list

Sit down and come up with a list of expected guest and make sure that it is in line with the expected budget.

As long as a detailed plan is formulated and adhered to, you are good to go.

Surrey Wedding Make-up Steps

As the big ceremony approaches a lot of the bride’s thoughts concern how she will look on the wedding day.  The outward appearance is a major aspect of any wedding and wedding makeup plays a great role in the overall bridal outfit and there are several steps that need to be followed to when applying wedding makeup.

Face Preparation

  • The face has to be properly cleaned and moisturized before the application process and make sure that the moisturizer used is specific to your skin type.
  • The next step is to pick out the right foundation that will go with the tone of your skin. In case you are having a summer wedding, consider using   water resistant foundation.  It is also important to use foundation that is streak-proof to prevent makeup lines from showing.

Wedding Makeup for the Eyes

  • Make sure that the area to be applied with make-up is hydrated using cream and then apply neutral eye shadow on the eyelid and on the lash line
  • Use some mid tone hue on the outer corners of the eyes for some accentuation
  • You can now apply some eyeliner and when doing this try apply it in a straight line
  • If you have thick eyelashes use a curler and use a double mascara coat. If you are the type who cries a lot them the waterproof mascara would be the best option

Lips and Cheeks

  • Make sure the colours chosen go well with the gown and uses some blusher for enhancement
  • The lips should be prepared by first using lip balm. Moisturize and  exfoliate on a regular basis before the
  • Use lip liner to mark the area where the lipstick will reach
  • Apply the lipstick appropriately to fill in the marked area and choose a brand that ensures your lips are moisturized

Make sure that you do some trials before the big day so that you can be sure of the outcome and avoid any surprises.

Wedding Makeup – Things to consider

wedding makeupFor anyone getting married the thought of what to expect on the big day constantly runs through the mind. Walking down the aisle, cameras flashing and generally all eyes on you! Along with a perfect gown hair and accessories, the bride’s wedding makeup should be totally up to scratch. It is important for your face to look its best on one of the most memorable days of your life.

Solar Effect

Make sure that you try as much as possible to keep of direct sun for prolonged periods of time. Sunburn, skin peeling or tan lines are not very flattering. If you need a tan on that day you can try a self tanner, tinted moisturizer and some bronzing powder.

Lights… Camera…

Always keep the cameras in mind and to begin with consider foundation and moisturizer with yellow undertones which works well for flash photography. Try as much as possible to avoid make up that is excessively glittery or foundation that has a light refracting properties because it could turn many of your photographs into a shimmering mess.  A matte finish for wedding makeup is more desirable for photos because it does not cause any reflection of light from the flash.

When powdering try and use a brush rather than a sponge or pad which could cause you to over-powder due to the smearing effect.

Eyes

Try as much as possible to use natural contouring colors together with brown or black eyeliner which gives a naturally sensual look. You can smudge the eyeliner a little bit so that it looks natural.

Lashes

Before anything make use of a lash curler which will help to add some length and neaten up the eye lashes. Add a single or double coat of water-resistant mascara. Let the initial coat set in first before adding the next one. This will help the lashes not to clump up.

Brows

Fill in any possible gaps in the eyebrows by using a high standard eyebrow pencil. Keep away from excessive use of eye shadow or eye pencil on the eyebrows because that is not their use.

Cheeks

Rosy tones are the best but use in moderation and do not add shimmery creams or powders.

Things To Consider Before Booking Surrey Wedding Venues

As we start off the New Year and set the excesses of the Christmas break behind us, we look to the summer, the warmer weather and our plans for the future. For a few of you, that may involve planning your big day, but before you shortlist your Surrey wedding venues here’s a few considerations which will help you choose the perfect place for your wedding.

Firstly you will need to decide if you are having a church ceremony then a reception or if you would like a civil ceremony and reception, which is typically held at the same location. Once you’ve decided on this you can look at the variety of wedding venues Surrey that meet your criteria.

One of the most crucial things to consider is how many guests you will be inviting – this will permit you to book a venue large enough to hold your guest list. Although you do not need to know exact numbers during the planning stage, having a rough idea to the nearest 10 will allow you to shortlist certain venues.

Another consideration is the type of reception you want to hold i.e. do you want guests to have a sit down meal or buffet? Venues should be able to cater for larger numbers if you select a buffet as instead of the more formal sit down meal.

Most weddings will feature entertainment at some point and you’ll need to consult with your shortlisted Surrey wedding venues as to whether or not they are able to accommodate live bands, DJs or dance floors.

Besides the planning considerations you will also need to think about the type of venue you want. There are many Surrey wedding venues to choose from including historic venues, hotels, sports and social clubs or restaurants so it’s worth eliminating those which are not really to your taste.

Logistics will play an important role if you want your big day to go without a hitch so it’s worthwhile considering a wedding venue which is easy for your guests to get to, has parking facilities and is a short distance from the church should you be holding a religious ceremony first.

Wedding planning can result in plenty of headaches but by carrying out your research, visiting your shortlisted venues beforehand and asking plenty of questions you can ease some of the tension connected with choosing wedding venues Surrey and be sure your big day is every bit as perfect as you hoped.

Beyond the Plastic Bride and Groom – 4 Fresh, Fun Ways to Top Your Wedding Cake

December 9, 2010 by

What will be on display at the top of your wedding cake, attracting attention from the crowd and living on in photos?

While the traditional bride-and-groom figurines are still an option, today’s brides are ditching the plastic columns and fountains that were so popular in the past, and choosing something less cheesy.

Wedding Cake Jewellery

Glitzy wedding cake jewellery is a fairly new trend that looks great on top of layers and icing. Wedding cake jewellery usually stands anywhere from three inches to five inches high and are available as letters with or without Swarovski crystals as accents.

A favourite is to choose the couple’s initial for the top of the cake. Add the bride’s initial on one side and the groom’s on the other, or let the single initial stand on its own.

If initials are included on the side, order them a bit smaller than the letter in the center. If that isn’t possible, be sure to sink the side initials a little deeper into the cake and let the middle letter stand up a bit higher, just to offset them for visual interest.

The letters will be anchored to thin spikes that will plunge into the top layer of the cake. The letters will look fine by themselves on the cake, or with flowers along their base. Just make sure the flowers don’t rest directly on the food.

Jewels are easy to find online, at wedding shops, or at bakeries.

Clear Acrylic Toppers

Crystal-clear acrylic cake toppers can be an elegant alternative.

They are available in several shapes and may be personalised. A heart-shaped acrylic topper could be personalised with your names and the date. Or a square topper could be engraved with hearts and your initials.

Since they’re lightweight, they will sit on top without risk of sinking into the cake.

Flowers

Fresh flowers are always an elegant way to top off a wedding cake.

The most important thing to remember, however, is to keep the flowers from touching the cake itself. While some flowers are edible and considered safe to eat, there is always a possibility that a non-toxic flower may have been treated with a toxic chemical before the flower made its way to you or your baker.

Place a thin, clear barrier between the icing and the flowers to make sure the cake isn’t compromised.

Many of the most beautiful wedding flowers are unsafe for human consumption, including calla lilies, hyacinths, lilies of the valley, tulips, hydrangeas, birds of paradise and carnations. If you’d like to place fresh flowers on your cake, do some research first to make sure you’re not putting anyone’s health in jeopardy.

Figurines

If you had your heart set on figurines atop your cake, plenty of options are available to you. Buy something brand new, whether traditional or whimsical, or enjoy a leisurely day looking around vintage shops or on eBay in search of something with a retro look.

Advertise your wedding business in Surrey

November 5, 2010 by

If you operate a wedding business catering for the Surrey area, there are plenty of ways in which you can promote your wedding business through our network of wedding sites.

1) Add your wedding business to the wedding directory
The first is to add your business details to the main wedding directory. This costs just £15.00 per year, and allows you to put your business details in up to 2 categories. You will be given a direct link to your site (if you have one) and unilimted 256 characters of text to describe your business. Your wedding business will be given it’s own page within the site.

At the time of writing this, the main site receives approximately 2,500 visitors per month (on average). This is a great investment, and this blog shows that we are committed to marketing all the sites in their own right.

2) Write an article
Articles are excellent for promoting any web site. A well written article will fly around the internet at very high speed, and each time it is re-published on a partner site, you will get another inbound link to your site. This is absolutely the best way to promote your site. Of course, there are right ways and wrong ways to go about this.

When you write your article about your wedding business, do not make it a blatant ad. Instead, make it interesting to read and, most importantly, informative. The idea of the article is to show yourself as the true expert in your business, so that anyone who reads the article will seek you out. They do this by following the resource box at the end of the article, which will lead to your site.

Once you have written your article, simply send it over to us, and we’ll either re-publish it here on this blog, or on one of our other wedding related sites. Again, each time we re-publish your article, we’ll provide a link back to you. This service is free as it provides excellent quality content for our visitors.

3) Let me review your site / service
The third way to promote your wedding business is to let us review your web site, products or services, so that we can tell our visitors about you in an informed way. Rather than just providing a link, we will write about how well received we were when trying to look through your services. This is a new idea and the review will be published here on this blog for all our visitors to read through.

For this to work well, your business ideally needs to offer something slightly different than the norm, so that we can make an interesting story from it.

We want your wedding business to be a success. We will do everything we can to help you invite more brides and grooms to find you in Surrey.

Avoid These Wedding Problems

April 13, 2010 by

You’ve proposed and settled on the location for your wedding. You’ve even started talking about setting the date. So it should be smooth sailing for now, right? Unfortunately, this is the point where most problems just begin.

Wedding planning is one of the most stressful tasks a person can endure. It places the stress on the two people as a couple for the first time, and provides a window in the world of married life and conflict resolution between the two. However, it doesn’t always have to be as stressful as it usually ends up becoming.

It helps to know a few things before you even start planning the wedding. If you always remember these few pieces of wedding planning truths, you’ll be able to reduce the amount of stress in your lives, and consequently, between you and your fiance.

First, always remember there will never be enough money to pay for the entire wedding as you’ve always dreamed it. I have yet to see a couple who successfully saved every penny they needed to make the wedding and reception the exact way they wanted it to be. You are going to have to make sacrifices and/or plan on going into debt and once you understand that, you will start to see different parts of the wedding as a compromise instead of a “must have”.

For example, if you have always wanted chair coverings during the reception, you may have to cut back on the limousine costs or invite 10 less people. This is just an example, but a real one that shows you how you will have to approach the planning as a set of compromises instead of a set of inflexible plans.

Next, don’t even doubt yourself for a second whether you’re making the right decision or not. Or do doubt yourself but realise that it’s normal and everyone does. It is just a matter of the severity of your doubting before the wedding occurs. Chances are, you’ve thought about this long and hard, and you know deep down inside that you’re making the right decision. By doubting yourself, you’re only going to put stress on yourself and everyone around you, including your fiance.

Don’t forget… as stressed as you are, your fiancé is probably equally, or more, stressed. Instead of keeping the stress inside, share your thoughts with your intended and solidify the relationship even further. Learn to lean on each other to help you both get through it. Of course, this shouldn’t stop when the wedding is over.

A wedding is probably the single most stressful time in any person’s life. By heeding some of this advice, you’ll make it a little less stressful and you’ll begin to enjoy what can be the happiest day of your life.

Choosing a Wedding Dress for Your Body Type

Choosing a Wedding Dress for Your Body Type? No Problem

Almost every woman wants to get their wedding day right. It is a very special occasion and most have imagined exactly how the big day will be when it finally comes. For this reason, it’s a must for women to get every detail of their wedding right- from the food to the invitations to the venue for the reception, and of course, their wedding dress.

If there is one detail about a wedding that a woman feels most attached to, it is the dress she will wear on the big day and how to choose one is an important thing to learn in the whole process. No bride should have to look less than her best on her wedding day and her gown must be something that compliments her although it is true that not every type of gown made suits just any woman.

Women come is varying shapes and sizes and there is a different type of dress that looks best on certain body types. The first and most important thing to do is to determine your body type. Are you slender or full figured? Bottom or top heavy? Small or large chested? Women will usually want a wedding dress that accentuates their best parts and hides those that they aren’t too happy with.

If you are a full figured or petite woman, you might be best off with a dress that has an a-line skirt. This type of dress will help create a slimmer silhouette for the fuller figured woman, while a petite bride will be given the illusion of added height.

Women who are full figured on the bottom are advised to go for dresses that are more form fitting in the upper body area. This way, the upper half is accentuated with no attention being drawn to the lower area. As for those who are full chested, a strapless is best avoided as those who have more bust need more support from dress straps, plus a strapless dress will draw attention to your chest area.

Necklines are also an important part of choosing your wedding dress. This is the best way to accentuate your chest, neck, shoulder, or collarbones, or mask and hide certain areas. Women with a fuller bust can certainly carry a sweetheart neckline, although this also works to further accentuate or create a bust for those who are not too well endowed. If you plan on emphasizing your collarbones or shoulders then an asymmetrical top or an off shoulder neckline would be the best choice. However, this is not recommended for women with very broad shoulders.

A halter neckline, on the other hand, works well to accentuate the shoulders for such women and those with a larger bust. There are necklines, though, that generally go well with any body type, such as the square neck or the scoop neck and these are usually the necklines on most general dresses.

When it comes to choosing your wedding dress, remember too that you are the one wearing it – not your guests. So if you don’t feel comfortable in it despite all the advice, it is not the dress for you. Make sure you pick a dress you will love wearing while at the same time, will make you look the best you can on your big day. Good luck!
